A Cry for Water: A Story from Kyankwanzi
Code: Jan|14|25
In the rolling hills of Kyankwanzi, where the sun beats down with unrelenting fervor, life revolves around one precious, dwindling resource: water. Here, in this rural community, the struggle for water is a daily reality—one that leaves children and families yearning for relief.
A dusty path winds its way to the community’s only well, a place shared by humans and animals alike. Children, many as young as five, carry jerrycans almost as big as themselves. Their tiny hands tremble under the weight of the water as they walk back home, careful not to spill a single drop. This well, murky and shared with cattle, represents life for the people of Kyankwanzi. Yet, the water they fetch is far from safe.
One such child is Sarah, a bright-eyed girl of eight with dreams as big as the sky. Every morning before school, Sarah walks nearly three kilometers to the well. She waits patiently in line behind her neighbors and a herd of thirsty cows. By the time she collects her water, it is muddy and filled with debris. Yet, her family has no choice but to use it for drinking, cooking, and washing.
The story of Sarah and her community echoes a deeper truth found in Scripture. In John 4:14, Jesus promises, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Just as Jesus offers spiritual water to quench the thirst of our souls, He calls us as His followers to care for the physical needs of others.
Water scarcity in Kyankwanzi is not just a social issue; it is a call for compassion, action, and faith in motion. Imagine what could happen if a new well, equipped with clean water, could be built for this community. Children like Sarah could spend their mornings in school instead of fetching water. Families could drink without fear of disease. Hope could flow as freely as water.
As Christians, we are reminded of Proverbs 19:17: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.” Today, Kyankwanzi offers us an opportunity to live out this verse.
We invite you to partner with us in bringing life-changing clean water to this community. Your prayers and support could help build a new well—one that is safe, reliable, and life-giving. Together, we can ensure that the children of Kyankwanzi no longer have to share their water with cattle or walk for miles to quench their thirst.
Will you answer the call? Will you be a vessel of Christ’s love to this community? Join us today in transforming lives, one drop of water at a time.
