ESCAPED LIKE A BIRD

Psalm 124:7"We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped."

Devotion

Life is filled with traps—situations designed by the enemy to entangle and destroy us. These snares could be sin, fear, doubt, addiction, or even oppression from others. But the psalmist declares a powerful truth: we have escaped! The snare is broken, not by our strength, but by the hand of the Lord.

When the enemy sets traps, God is our rescuer. Just as a bird caught in a hunter’s snare is helpless without intervention, we, too, need God's saving power. Through Jesus Christ, the greatest trap of all—sin and death—has been broken (Romans 6:23). No matter what the enemy plots, God's power ensures our escape.

Are you feeling trapped today? Call on the Lord. He is the One who breaks every snare, setting His people free to soar again.

Further Study

  • 2 Timothy 2:26"And they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."
  • John 8:36"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."
  • Isaiah 54:17"No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me," declares the Lord.

Golden Nugget

"The enemy may set a trap, but God has already planned your escape."

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my deliverer. I declare that every snare of the enemy is broken in my life. Set me free from anything that seeks to hold me captive. Let me walk in the freedom that Jesus Christ has purchased for me. In Jesus' name,

AMEN.

Verse of the Day

How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? — Hebrews 10:29 Thoughts on Today's Verse... We often look at the swift and dramatic discipline and punishment God used with his people in the Old Testament and are struck by its severity. The Holy Spirit reminds us that while this was true, to spurn grace and ridicule the sacrificial death of Jesus are actions all the more worthy of God's punishment. Grace is incredible. It is marvelous. But to reject Jesus and all he did to bring us God's love and salvation is to court disaster and reject any source of grace. Rejecting Jesus has harsh consequences, so please, dear friend, don't! Please don't reject God's offer of love, mercy, grace, hope, and salvation in Jesus. As the apostle Peter said while inspired by th...
